THE GOURMAND NEW IN OUR PORTFOLIO:
The idea for THE GOURMAND came out of a dinner conversation amongst friends at David Lane and Marina Tweed’s table a few years ago. Wouldn’t it be an excellent idea to make a magazine about the exciting cultural shift that has taken place around producing, cooking, and eating over the past few decades? Inspired by the multiple meanings associated with food across all continents?
The first issue (numbered 00) was published in 2012. Since then, the publication has strived to capture the exciting work being done at the crossroads of the culinary and creative industries. The list of contributors has grown to include noted photographers, artists, and writers, all of whom are given free rein to explore their creativity and share unusual, engaging, and unexpected perspectives.
The biannual magazine now is a Stack award-winning food and culture journal with a broad subject base and an international reach. It is distributed worldwide and is stocked at select bookshops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants, hotels, and members’ clubs. It also hosts talks, workshops, exhibitions, supper clubs, and special events.
Of course THE GOURMAND isn’t the first and only magazine on food in the market, but David and Marina’s approach is fresh and exceptional. It simply wants the best photography and illustrations, the most inspiring people as basic material, the newest trends in food and cooking, all in sophisticated typography. Their concept is executed with great care and a genuine sense of style, resulting in a mouthwatering magazine that balances between a buffet and 5 star menu.
Highlights of the latest (10-th) issue: Enrique Olvera on the new Mexican food movement: “I wanted to come back and eat quesedillas all day”; The Friars Club of Beverly Hills; Menu-Driven Interface, on Bucks on Woodside in Silicon Valley; Go West with Makkonen Sheran; Olaf Breuning and his foodie fetish Instagram account; The Seven Deadly Sins and much more.
Each article reflects the pure communicative power of food, as well as its role as a catalyst for creativity of all kinds. Within the journal’s pages, the past, present, and future of food is represented with unparalleled images, text, and design.
