Apartamento 22 | The cover of Apartamento 22 features an artwork by Spanish artist Nazario Luque (Castilleja del Campo, 1944), who is widely regarded as a father of the Spanish underground and star of Barcelona’s counter-culture movement in the still dark years that marked the end of the dictatorship in the 1970s.
The cover is a vignette from his 1990 comic, ‘Helena: A Shadow in the Plaza Real’, the story of which taking place in the often infamous and ever-bustling square in Barcelona’s gothic quarter, adopted home and inspiration to Nazario for over 40 years. We’ve republished the comic alongside an interview by Pere Pedrals and photography by Daniel Riera.
Also featuring: Fernando Botero, Françoise Mouly, Oh Hyuk, Gertrude Abercrombie, Mélanie Scarciglia & Christophe Boutin, BV Doshi, Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Sheila Heti, Yvon Lambert, Nick Murphy, Ruben Östlund, Ingo Maurer, Campbell Addy, and Ruth Rogers.
