El Croquis 202 – Bernardo Bader 2009 to 2019
El Croquis 202 – Bernardo Bader 2009 to 2019 | This monograph covers a decade of work by Bernardo Bader. In that time, the Austrian architect has steadily built a reputation for his modern take on regional styles. Both the exteriors and interiors of his designs are often clad in wood, with structures framed by clean lines and set in alpine terrains, radiating warmth and comfort. Bader’s outspoken perspective on critical regionalism in architecture has drawn international praise, and he prefers to use locally sourced timber in his work.
Presented here are more than fifteen projects, many of them houses, but also kindergartens, an alpine sports centre, an Islamic cemetery, a railway station, a chapel, a hotel, and more.

The Salgenreute Chapel is located in an alpine conglomeration near Krumbach. The old chapel could no longer be restored, although the aim was not to completely redo the existing structure. The chapel is a free-standing building which displays expressive architecture. It was the result of a creative planning and construction process characterized by outstanding collaboration. An exemplary project created by the inhabitants and craftsmen emerged in a concerted effort of joint planning and building over several years. The opportunity to realize such a project and help fund it only arises when more than a hundred people regard their work time and organizational skills as quality and added value of ‘doing’.
